In Pondicherry, the Congress-DMK coalition government has collapsed. The Congress party has failed to prove its majority in the Pondicherry Assembly. Due to this, the Speaker has declared that the government does not have a majority and Narayanasamy's departure has been confirmed. In the assembly, the Congress had the support of nine of its own MLAs, two from the DMK and one from the Independents. This means that the Congress had the support of 11 MLAs (12 including the Speaker). While the current state of the legislature required the support of 14 MLAs for a majority which the Opposition has. However, before the floor test, Narayanasamy kept claiming that he had a majority of elected MLAs.

A special session was held on Monday in Pondicherry to determine the future of the Congress. CM V. Narayanasamy proposed a vote of confidence in the House and said his government had a majority. Narayanasamy's government later lost a majority in the confidence vote. Before casting his vote of confidence, he demanded a full state and accused former Vice-Governor Kiran Bedi and the BJP central government of toppling his government.

In the assembly, Narayanasamy advised the MLAs to be honest for the party. At the same time, the MLAs who have resigned from the party cannot look at the people as they will be seen as opportunists.

Before this floor test, the prospects of a presidential rule in Pondicherry were also being explored. Lieutenant Governor Tamil Sai Sundararajan has been the BJP president in Tamil Nadu. According to a report, if the BJP felt that the situation was not in their favor, the President's rule could also be implemented. The lieutenant governor may recommend the rule of law, in charge of law and order.
