New Delhi 30th January 2021 Saturday

Thousands of farmers, who have been protesting against the new agriculture law in the capital New Delhi for the past two-and-a-half months, announced today that they would observe Gandhiji's death anniversary and fast all day today.

After the violence in Delhi on January 26, some farmers' unions left for their respective homelands and the Indus Border, Ghazipur Border, etc. began to become empty. But on the night of the 27th, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait shed tears in front of the electronic media and then the farmers left for Delhi again.

After the cry of Rakesh Tikait, now the peasant movement seems to be gaining momentum again. The farmers' unions who returned on the 27th also flew to Delhi. On the other hand, Anna Hazare, a social worker in Ralegan Siddhi area of Maharashtra, announced a fast-unto-death from today in support of farmers.

Meanwhile, a farmers' mahapanchayat was met in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district on Friday and it was decided that a convoy of farmers from western Uttar Pradesh and Muzaffarnagar would be sent back to Delhi and speed up the ongoing agitation against the new agricultural law. Thus the tears of Rakesh Tikait created a kind of miracle. The weakening peasant movement was gaining momentum again.

Rashtriya Lok Dal vice-president Jayant Chaudhary and Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also addressed the farmers at the Mahapanchayat on Friday. To control the situation, the Haryana government had shut down the internet in some districts of Haryana till 5 pm on January 30. In such districts, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Kaithal, Panipat, Hisar, Jind, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Fatehabad, Rewali and Sirsa districts were without internet service except voice calls.

Meanwhile, in New Delhi, farmer leader Darshanpal Singh demanded resumption of internet service in Delhi and especially on the Indus border. He claimed that we had to convey the real situation information to millions of people about the farmers' movement through the internet.
