New Delhi 5th January 2021 Tuesday

The Supreme Court on Tuesday morning granted the Central Vista project a major relief to the Modi government.

The Central Vista project involved in the construction of the new parliament building was challenged in the Supreme Court. A bench comprising Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dinesh Maheshwari said it did not matter that the foundation stone of the new Parliament House was laid.

The foundation stone was laid by the Supreme Court, so Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the new Parliament House on December 10 last year. The apex court had said that the court had no objection to the laying of the foundation stone. But no demolition or new construction will take place until the final verdict of this petition. Do not cut down a single tree in this area.

A three-judge bench approved the Central Vista project by a vote of two to one. More than one petition challenging the Modi government's Central Vista project was filed in the Supreme Court. At that time, the central government had sought the court's permission to lay the foundation stone of the new parliament building. The court allowed the foundation stone and said that the court has no objection to the foundation stone being laid. But no further work should be done. Not to cut down trees, not to do any kind of demolition or any new construction.

Thus the work of the new Parliament House was now stalled. Much of the existing Parliament building was eaten away and some parts were frequently crusted. Some areas were severely weakened. For the last 60-70 years the work has been run by frequent repairs. The Maoist government had planned a new parliament building called the Central Vista Project.
