Thiruvananthapuram, Dt. 3 January 2020, Sunday

A new controversy has erupted in the country over the marriage of a Christian girl and a Muslim man in Kerala at a time when the law is being framed by one state after another over love jihad.

The Syro Malabar Church in Thrissur district of Kerala has declared the marriage of a Christian girl and a Muslim man illegal and suspended the two priests who performed the marriage. The church further said that the priests have admitted their mistake.

A three-member committee of the Syro Malabar Church said that the marriage was not valid as the law of Christianity, Canon Law, was not observed during the marriage ceremony.

Following the controversy, the church set up a committee to investigate the matter, which revealed that the pastor who performed the marriage had not complied with the canon law. This is a rule observed in Catholic discussions, according to an English newspaper That is, pastors who perform such marriages are promoting marriage in another religion, which is not appropriate.
