Petrol and diesel prices have skyrocketed in India. In Rajasthan, the price of petrol has come close to Rs 100. Even in metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai, petrol and diesel prices are all time high. If we talk about India's neighbors, Pakistan is getting petrol at half the price of India. Even in poorer countries like Bhutan and Nepal, the price of petrol and diesel is much lower than in India.

The cheapest petrol in the world is found inside Venezuela. The price of a liter of petrol in Venezuela is Rs 1.46 in Indian rupees. So the most expensive petrol in the world is found inside Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, petrol is priced at Rs 172.66 per liter.

In India, petrol is so expensive because it is taxed more. Different taxes are levied by different state governments and different taxes are levied by the central government. VAT is levied along with excise duty and the government earns. The Rajasthan government collects the highest taxes in the country. Where 38 per cent VAT is levied on petrol and 28 per cent on diesel.
