Omar Abdullah appeals to Supreme Court

- Section 370 has been illegally removed

Srinagar / New Delhi Dated 16th January 2021 Saturday

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah, leader of the National Conference, said that Jammu and Kashmir should be taken into account in the same way that the Supreme Court took note of the peasant movement itself.

He alleged that the central government had illegally repealed Article 370, which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The Supreme Court should take note of this and give justice to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Omar said that in the midst of his day-to-day work, if the Supreme Court could take note of the peasant agitation, it could also take note of the case under Article 370 of the Jammu and Kashmir Act.

Omar said the Supreme Court on the new agricultural law said the central government had enacted the law unilaterally and without consulting anyone. Similarly, on August 5, 2019, no one was consulted in the decision to abolish the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, the Supreme Court should hold an immediate hearing in this case as well. It is about the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The issue was notified to the Center by the Supreme Court on August 29, 2019, when Ranjan Gogoi was the Chief Justice. The case was referred to the court of Justice N V Raman. A five-judge bench also began hearing the case on October 1, 2019. It was then decided that a seven-judge bench would take up the case. Before that could happen, the case of Jammu and Kashmir was stalled due to corona and lockdown.

"We have faith in the Supreme Court," Omar Abdullah said. The apex court said that stay orders can be issued against any law if necessary and the law can also be repealed if necessary. However after some period further change is not possible. As time goes by, all the people of the country will get the facility to live in Jammu and Kashmir. His men will be appointed to government positions. Then it will be said that now a lot of water has flowed in the jail so nothing can happen now. Therefore, the Supreme Court should immediately hear the case, Omar said.
