'New education policy aims at talent development'

-Prime Minister clarified while addressing the Youth Parliament

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the main objective of the new education policy was to fully develop the talent in the individual.

Today, on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary, the Prime Minister was addressing the Youth Parliament Festival through video conference. Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is celebrated there every year as Youth Day. Swami Vivekananda was born on the 12th of January. He left at a very young age. Before that he worked tirelessly and preached.

The Prime Minister said that with the passage of time, the country became independent. British rule came to an end. But Swami Vivekananda's ideas are still relevant today. His influence is still with us today. The ideas expressed by Swami Vivekananda for nation building, for spiritual advancement, for public service are still relevant today. Swami Vivekananda has given us a very big gift. It is a gift of personality development and of building institutions or countries. There has been very little discussion on this subject.

The Prime Minister added that the speech delivered by Swami Vivekananda in Chicago in 1893 is still remembered today. The discourse was given at the World Council of Religions. We constantly remember this discourse because Swamiji's knowledge of the true religion was infinite. Swami Vivekananda's views on Hinduism and the various religions prevailing in India touched the clergy of the world. Those ideas are still fresh and relevant today.

The National Youth Parliament Festival was conceived by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He introduced the idea in his Mann Ki Baat discourse in 2017 and it was later implemented.

Also present on the occasion were Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiran Rijiju.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister called on us to embrace Swami Vivekananda's ideas and spread his ideals far and wide. The path he prophesied is ideal for the youth of every generation
