There were initial reports that at least eight people were killed in a massive blast in the Shimoga area of ​​Karnataka. The Prime Minister sent a message of condolences to the families of those killed in the tragedy. He expressed sorrow over the incident.

Police believe the blast was caused by dynamite. However the investigation is not yet complete. The blast was so massive that nearby houses were also badly damaged.

According to police, the site of the blast was about five kilometers from the city of Shimoga. The blast was heard around 10.30 pm on Thursday night and was also discussed on social media.

According to PTI, the blast took place in a truck loaded with gelatin. Six workers in the truck died instantly. However, as of this writing, only two bodies have been found, police said.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa had ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. He also announced strict punishment for the culprits.

Shimoga police cordoned off the entire area to prevent another possible explosion and prevent a crowd of spectators. On social media, Lokeya wrote that there was a huge explosion with an earthquake of magnitude.

Chief Minister Yeddyurappa's constituency so the police were investigating more cautiously. However, the police did not believe the incident was a vandalism.

Senior police officials were investigating how the blast occurred. However the friction in the gelatin sticks may have caused the explosion. Nothing can be said about the blast until a full investigation is carried out.
