Ludhiana Dt. 1 January 2021 Friday

Ludhiana police arrested a total of three people, including an Indian Air Force employee, on charges of spying for Pakistan.

The trio were accused of passing pictures of the Air Force's Halwara base to Pakistan's ISI.

He was charged under three different sections of the Indian Penal Code. The three sections included the Sedition, Violation of Government Secrecy Act and the Prevention of Illegal Activities Act. The three are also accused of being linked to Khalistani terrorism. They wanted to disrupt law and order in Punjab.

The men sent photographs of the Halwara airport to Pakistan's notorious ISI. These people wanted to obtain arms illegally from Pakistan. He also had a plan to smuggle weapons. The three were identified as Ram Singh (working as a diesel mechanic at the Halwara station), Sukhkiran Singh and Shabir Ali.

It may be noted here that Ram Singh had just returned to India from Kuwait a few months back. According to a Ludhiana police spokesperson, Ram Singh was earlier picked up. The other two were arrested on Wednesday. He was taken on remand. Of the three, Sukhkiran Singh had earlier gone to jail for murder. He had asked Ramdas Singh for pictures of Halwara airport.

Sukhkiran Singh and Ramdas wanted Shabir Ali to introduce them to an ISI agent. Police further said that the three were not planning any major attack and it would come to light after their interrogation. It may be recalled here that seven people were killed in a terrorist attack on Pathankot airport in Punjab five years ago. This is the first time since then that three people have been arrested for spying for Pakistan.
