'India is now like China and Turkey', British think tank criticizes India's Hindu nationalism

- Nehru's secular doctrine is being forgotten

London / New Delhi dated 13 January 2021 Wednesday

One of Britain's leading think tanks gave the red light to the British government's efforts to get closer to India.

Chantam House's Global Britain Global Broker report warned the British government against expanding economic or trade ties with India.

The report also included India among the four nations proving to be rivals for Britain. The report said India did not have much to look forward to. The report said there was a need to consider how Britain would benefit from enhancing economic or diplomatic ties with India.

The report also described India as one of the few countries in the world, such as China and Turkey, after arguing that Hindutva nationalism was now spreading in India, undermining the secular doctrine of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The report named India, China, Turkey and Saudi Arabia as the most difficult countries. The report advised the British government that it was necessary to set our goals while deepening relations with India. It is a fact that India is necessary for Britain ... but the benefits of relations with India have always been less than expected. The legacy of the British rule has always been an obstacle in this regard. In comparison, America was becoming India's most important friend. Recently, US administrators further strengthened bilateral ties with India. That is why Britain was pushed to the brink, the think tank's report said.

The report also claimed that India was now being pushed towards Hindu nationalism. In this, the secular doctrine of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was being forgotten. This nationalism was trampling on the rights of Muslims and other minorities. Instead of the secular democracy inherited by Pandit Nehru, India was now being pushed towards an intolerant majority.
