There have been reports of more than four lakh bird deaths in the last 10 days.

According to forest department officials, 20,000 ducks have died in Kerala in the last one week while 3400 birds have died in Himachal Pradesh in the last 15 days. Crow deaths have been reported in various districts of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

An avian influenza subtype named H5N8 is being blamed for the deaths of crows in Kota and Baran districts of Rajasthan, Indore and Malwa in Madhya Pradesh. However, experts say it is less contagious. As many as 625 crows have died in 16 out of 33 districts of Rajasthan till Tuesday.

Rajasthan Animal Husbandry Minister Lalchand Kataria said in a statement that the effect of the virus has not been seen on the hen's eggs and precautionary measures have been announced in view of the way it has spread in crows. Tests of samples taken from Jodhpur came back negative. Tests in Jhalawar, Kota and Baran were positive.

He further said that as a precautionary measure, restrictive orders have been issued under section 144 of the CRPC in areas up to one kilometer of the infected area of ​​Jhalawar and Pali districts. According to the secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department of Rajasthan, the avian influenza subtype H-5N-8 is not dangerous for humans but precautionary measures need to be taken to prevent the disease from spreading to birds.
