Speculation that Ganguly will join the BJP may now take a new turn

BJP to field Ganguly against Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal Assembly polls

Kolkata, Ta. 2

Sourav Ganguly is very popular in West Bengal and with a large number of young voters, speculation is rife in political circles that the BJP is considering fielding him against current chief minister and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee in this year's assembly elections. It will be interesting to see what happens to Ganguly now that he has had a heart attack.

Ganguly has been denying any involvement in politics, but last Sunday, Ganguly was invited to the Governor's House by West Bengal Governor and BJP supporter Jagdeep Dhankar and the two had a two-hour meeting.

A week before the meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a visit to West Bengal, had commented that the BJP's chief ministerial candidate in the forthcoming Assembly elections would be 'Bhumiputra', the son of West Bengal. The political activity and speculation that has been frozen for the last few months indicates that Sourav Ganguly will join the BJP.

However, Ganguly's politician Adathi says he "went to invite the governor to visit the Eden Gardens cricket stadium." Political analysts say, "Does such an invitation require a two-hour meeting?" It will come out what a turn this whole chapter takes.

It is possible that Dhari Ganguly may now withdraw from the scheme if he does not really want to join the BJP due to ill health. Similarly, if he has political ambitions, he can join the BJP with a strong morale after a few weeks of rest. Ganguly's angioplasty is a routine procedure in the medical world, so if he wants, he can do the activity with labor just like a normal person.
