Don't do contract farming, don't take anyone's land, Reliance clarifies on new agricultural law

- Application in the High Court regarding the sabotage in Punjab and Haryana

New Delhi Dated 4th January 2021 Monday

Explaining its stance on the new agricultural law, Reliance Industries Ltd clarified that we are not going to do contract farming or grab anyone's land.

Reliance made this clear in the context of the agitation on the Delhi border for the last thirty-five days against the new agricultural law. The company had also filed an application in the Haryana High Court seeking reversal of the demolition of Reliance's immovable property in Punjab and Haryana.

Reliance clarified some issues rather than detailed disclosures such as Reliance has never done contract farming and has no plans to do so in future. We have no plans to take any farmer's land in any part of the country, not just Punjab or Haryana. Reliance never buys grains, vegetables, pulses and other items sold in Reliance's retail stores directly from farmers. All items of daily use are supplied to the company from independent manufacturers and suppliers. The company has never entered into an agreement with anyone to take advantage of farmers. We have not even told our suppliers to buy cheaply from farmers and give us goods. Reliance considers farmers as the bread and butter of the earth which fills the stomachs of 13 million people in this country. Reliance has enough respect and esteem for the farmers.

Reliance urges its suppliers to abide by the rules laid down by the government and adhere to the minimum support price. Reliance will never take any step that would cost a single penny to any farmer in the country. Reliance will continue its operations in a way that benefits not only the farmers but also the people.
