The scandal, which erupted in 2018, revealed how users' personal data is leaked on Facebook and the extent to which Facebook is careless on data security issues. Cambridge Analytica's job was to consult political parties and manage social media. The company used the information from Facebook to divert voters to various political parties or candidates.

Cambridge Analytica obtained information about users' preferences, political views, etc., and used them in the US presidential election (2015-16), the Brexit vote (2016) and the Mexican election (2018). .

To make this mess, Cambridge Analytica created a quiz app on Facebook. Users could play this quiz game through Facebook account. But users did not know that Analytica stole all its details while playing the game.

The app was used by only 335 Facebook users in India. But in the meantime, Cambridge got the personal details (name, birth details, e-mail, phone number, address, etc.) of a total of six lakh people, including users' friends, friends, other people in the circle.

When a person opens an account in Facebook, he has to provide all this information. Facebook claims that the company does not share this information with anyone. That claim has repeatedly been proven wrong. The CBI has filed a case and is investigating. Analytica, however, said it only had data from American users.
