Bird flu: 11 state outbreaks, more than 1000 bird deaths a day

In Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, the number of bird flu cases has risen to 12. Meanwhile, the central government has issued advisory on testing protocols and PPE kits. Meanwhile, a total of one thousand birds died today in states including Himachal.

In Uttarakhand, 300 birds have died in the last few days. Which mostly includes crows. Birds have been ordered to be slaughtered in Maharashtra's Latur district. A PPE kit is required for the slaughter of birds.

Till yesterday, bird flu cases had surfaced in Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat. The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy said in a statement that crows that died in Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan have been exposed to the bird flu virus.

Avian influenza strain H5N1 has also been found in dead birds at a zoological park in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. According to the ministry, a team from the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) collected samples from Zabua district in Madhya Pradesh.

The ministry has directed all states to slaughter birds if necessary to prevent bird flu and to have adequate stock of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits for this purpose.
