Violence again in Bengal, scuffle between leader Shubhendu Adhikari and TMC supporters in East Midnapore

Kolkata, Ta. 23 December 2020, Wednesday

Violence has erupted in the state ahead of next year's assembly elections in West Bengal. In the state's East Midnapore, there has been a rift between Shubhendu Adhikari and Trinamool Congress supporters.

Recently, Shubhendu Adhikari left TMC and joined Bharatiya Janata Party. Last week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was on a two-day visit to West Bengal. During this visit a huge rally was organized on 19th December at Midanpura.

Shubhendu Adhikari formally joined the BJP in this public meeting. At the same time, leaders of other parties, including his brother and the leader of the TAMAC, also joined the BJP. Now that the strong and formidable leader of the TMC, Shubhendu, is moving towards the BJP, his feud with TMC supporters is also coming under discussion.

The latest incident of political violence in Bengal took place in Midnapore, a stronghold of the Subhendu officer, who had earlier said he had been attacked.

A few days ago, when he was given Z-category security by the Union Home Ministry, he said that an estimated one dozen attacks had been carried out on him in the last few days.
