Users will now be charged at 120 major railway stations, government plans to redevelop stations

User charges will now be levied for railway station usage in the near future. User charges will be levied as part of the redevelopment plan of 120 major railway stations in the country.

This redevelopment will be done by private companies. According to an English newspaper report, the Union Cabinet will take a decision in the next two weeks. The stations will be redeveloped to attract private investors.

This decision will be taken by the Ministry of Railways. The average user charges will be ten to fifteen rupees. There will be different charges for different classes of passengers. The highest charge will be for a first class passenger.

Initially redevelopment will be done at Hundred Savaso station. User charges will go directly to the private company so it will be part of their permanent income.

According to reliable sources, the major stations include Delhi, Mumbai Central, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Boribunder), Nagpur, Tirupati, Chandigarh and Gwalior. Bidding dates for Mumbai and Delhi had already been announced. Private companies will be able to bid by that date.
