Shubhendu officer given Z security, was a minister in Mamata Banerjee's government

- Now preparing to join the BJP

Kolkata Tuesday, December 15, 2020

Shubhendu Adhikari, who resigned as a minister in Mamata Banerjee's government in West Bengal, was given Z security by the Center. As he left Mamata's side, Trinamool Congress workers were likely to attack him.

Shubhendu will formally join the BJP this weekend in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. With just six months to go before the West Bengal Assembly elections, the resignation of a Shubhendu official was seen as a major setback for Mamata Banerjee, political analysts said. The Trinamool Congress was also shocked by the news of giving Z security to Shubhendu.

News that Shubhendu would join the BJP in his presence when Amit Shah is due to arrive in Midnapore next Saturday also reverberated in the Trinamool Congress. Earlier, Shubhendu had claimed that he would not join the BJP. But now BJP's Mukul Roy has confirmed the news that Shubhendu was joining the BJP.
