Although the internet has become an integral part of life for people living in cities, the fact remains that there are 12 states and union territories in the country where more than 60 women have never used the internet.
The government is talking about extending the internet to the villages but the National Family Health Survey has revealed that the figures for the states where less than 40 per cent of women have used the internet are as follows.
21 per cent in Andhra Pradesh
28.2 per cent in Assam
Gujarat 30.8 percent
Karnataka 35 percent
Maharashtra 38 per cent
Meghalaya 34.7 per cent
Telangana 26.5 per cent
Tripura 22.9 per cent
West Bengal 25.5 per cent
Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu 36.7 per cent
Andaman Nicobar 34.8 per cent
Men are more likely to use the internet than women. In seven states of the country, 50 per cent or less men have used the internet.

The survey also mentions women's education. There are eight states and union territories where less than 40 per cent of women have completed 10 years or more of schooling.
