Four persons have been arrested for embezzling Rs 6 lakh from a bank account set up for the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya. These persons committed this crime through fake checks. Among the arrested persons, three are residents of Mumbai and one is a resident of Thane. However, the mastermind of this embezzlement is a resident of Varanasi and he is still absconding.

The miscreants cloned the Ram Mandir Trust check and withdrew Rs 6 lakh in two installments. The amount was withdrawn from the Fort branch of Mumbai-based Bank of Baroda.

One of the apprehended Prashant cloned the check and later distributed it among his comrades. The trust had set a limit of Rs 6 lakh to be withdrawn from the account, otherwise more money could be embezzled. However, the whole matter came to light after the bank informed the trust by phone that the culprits were trying to withdraw more than the limit.

On the other hand, the construction of the Ram temple is estimated to cost around Rs 1100 crore. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has then announced that it will start a nationwide drive from January 15 to raise funds for the construction of the temple. During which donation of more than Rs. 20000 will be given by check.

"We plan to cover about 525,000 villages, from where the funds will be raised," VHP International President Alok Kumar said. The funds will be credited to the bank account within 48 hours of receipt. The banks to which the amount will be credited include Bank of Baroda, SBI and Punjab National Bank. The drive will start from January 15 to February 27.
