For the first time in India, a meteorological station was set up at an altitude of 3500 meters

The Meteorological Center was inaugurated in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The center will serve as a weather warning in Ladakh. This meteorological center is designed at an altitude of 3500 meters.

Inaugurating the center, Union Minister for Earth Sciences Harshvardhan said it was the first meteorological center to be built at such a high altitude in India. The center will forecast three days (short term), 12 days (medium term) and 30 days (long term) for Leh and Kargil.

It is worth mentioning that Leh and Kargil have a heterogeneous climate throughout the year. The temperature in Dras sector goes up to minus 40. The center will also forecast weather for tourist destinations like Nubra, Changthang, Pengong Lake, Zanskar, Kargil, Dras, Khalsi.
