As President Pranab Mukherjee wrote in his autobiography, "After I became President, the Congress became a directionless party. Some leaders believed that if I had become the Prime Minister in 2004, the Congress party would not have suffered so many defeats in 2014.

Before his death, Mukherjee wrote an autobiography entitled 'The Presidential Years'. The book, published by Rupa Prakashan, will be available in January. Pranab Mukherjee died on July 31 following a series of complications following a coronary heart attack earlier this year.

At a time when the Congress party is losing its luster, Pranavada's book is coming out which revealed some bitter things about the Congress party. Pranabda writes that many leaders of the Congress party believed that if I had become the Prime Minister in 2004, the Congress would not have won the parliamentary elections in 2014. However I don't mind this opinion. I think the Congress party lost direction after I became President. If Sonia Gandhi was not capable of giving strong leadership, then due to Manmohan Singh's long absence in Parliament, the MPs have not had personal contact with anyone.

He also said that any Prime Minister can lead the country efficiently. But Manmohan Singh was busy preserving the UPA coalition and could not pay enough attention to the administration.
