Assam's 2019 NRC list falsified, Guwahati High Court told that the list is not final

- There was a mess about 47 thousand names

Guwahati dated 10 December 2020 Thursday

Hitesh Sharma, coordinator of Assam's National Register of Citizens, told the Guwahati High Court that the Registrar General of India has not yet released Assam's final NRC list.

In an affidavit, Sharma said the Registrar General has not yet made any formal announcement on the final list. He informed the court that 4700 names were incorrectly added to the supplementary list published in August 2019. That list was a mess. That list was not final.

The list, released under the auspices of the Supreme Court, did not include the names of 1.9 million people. Five and a half lakh Hindu names were not in it and 11 lakh Muslim names were not in it. Three crore people applied to protest the list and complained that their names were not there. The NRC coordinator at the time erroneously declared the list final.

However, the Assam government had alleged that the convener had tampered with the list. The apex court had then replaced the convener in view of the convener's differences with the state government. The apex court had stayed the action against 1.9 million people whose names were not on the list.
