A wave of deadly cold across northern India, with mercury dropping to four degrees in Delhi today

The torrential snowfall in the hilly areas of the country was followed by a wave of deadly cold across North India. In Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, the mercury dropped below zero in many places. As a result, the whole of northern India turned cold again.

According to the meteorological department, the mercury was likely to drop below four degrees Celsius in many places, including the capital New Delhi. Besides Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and northwestern Rajasthan were also likely to experience severe cold. The meteorological department also said that heavy rains were expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep between December 16 and 18.

Maharashtra was also likely to get cold like mountainous areas. The meteorological department also said that the fog could cause thick fog in many places.
