35 arrested in a month of implementation of anti-love jihad law in Uttar Pradesh

The government of Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh has enacted strict laws to prevent incidents like Love Jihad. A month has passed since the enactment of this law and during this time many FIRs and cases have been registered in the state. While the arrests are also ongoing.

Under anti-proselytism laws, 35 people have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh in a single month. While more than a dozen FIRs have been lodged. The law was enacted on the 27th.

Of the 35 people arrested, eight were from Itah, seven from Sitapur, four from Noida, three from Shahjahanpur, three from Azamgarh, two from Moradabad, two from Muzaffarnagar and two from Bijnor and Kanauj.

However, in one case, police arrested two Muslim youths on a tip-off, and charged them with converting a young woman. However, the girl later denied the allegations and the police had to release the two men following a court order.

Nadeem was arrested in Muzaffarpur and Rashid and Salim in Moradabad, who were later released after the case was proved wrong. All those arrested have been accused by the family of forcing a young woman to convert for marriage. The law provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years if the charges are proved.
