Crime has been rampant in Uttar Pradesh for the last few months. The issue of Ram temple was no more. So it will be interesting to see to what extent voters like whom today. Today's by-election was being seen as a litmus test for the BJP. However, today's election has no political significance for the Uttar Pradesh government.

Two of the seven seats fell vacant following the untimely deaths of BJP leaders. Deoria's BJP MLA Janmejay Singh and state cabinet minister Chetan Chauhan - both of whom died suddenly - their seats fell vacant.

The total electorate of today's seats is three lakh 43 thousand of which 1,87,397 are male voters and 1,55,580 are female voters. 299 booths were set up in 507 polling stations. Social distinctions and masks were made mandatory in view of the corona.
