Internal divisions within the party are on the rise after the crushing defeat of the Congress, which contested the Bihar Assembly elections in a grand coalition.

Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot have clashed. In an interview to an English newspaper, Kapil Sibal said, "It seems that the party leadership has accepted defeat in every election. The by-election results suggest that the people of the country do not see Congress as a viable option.

It may be mentioned that in the Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress has won only 19 seats. While the Congress had contested 70 seats.

On the other hand, Ashok Gehlot criticized Sibal's statement, saying that Sibal did not need to mention the party's internal issues in the media in this way and it hurt the feelings of party workers.

Meanwhile, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has convened a meeting of party leaders to discuss the poor performance of the party. The meeting may discuss the reasons for the defeat as well as the election of the Congress president.
