Delhi Violence: 930 page chargesheet filed against Umar and Sharjeel under UAPA

The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Sunday filed a chargesheet against JNU alumni Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam on charges of conspiracy to commit violence in Delhi in February.

A 930-page chargesheet has been filed by Delhi Police in Kadakaduma court. The 930-page chargesheet has 197 pages, while the 3 733 pages have documents. Apart from Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, Faizan's name is also included in the chargesheet.

A chargesheet has also been filed against Faizan Khan for allegedly providing fake SIM cards to those involved in the violence. Chargesheets have been filed in several serious sections of the IPC, including Section 13/16/17/18 UAP act, 120B, 109, 114,201, 124A, 147,148,149, 153A, 186, 420. The FIR in the case was registered by the Delhi Police Crime Branch, which was probed by a special cell.

Earlier, the Delhi government and the home ministry had approved the prosecution of Umar Khalid and others in the Delhi violence case. Umar Khalid was arrested by Delhi Police under UAPA in a violence case. By law, the Home Ministry's approval is required before prosecuting a person under UAPA. The Delhi Police got the permission a few days back.

Delhi Police arrested Umar Khalid on September 14 in a violence case. The Kadakaduma court extended Omar Khalid's judicial custody until November 20. An application was made by the Delhi Police to extend his judicial custody for 30 days. But the court has extended the length of judicial custody for 3 days till Monday.

It has been alleged on behalf of Khalid that he is not allowed to leave his cell or meet anyone during judicial custody. The case is set to be heard on November 23.

Delhi Police had on March 6 registered an FIR against Omar Khalid. Umar Khalid has also been charged in the FIR. These include mobilizing people during US President Donald Trump's visit, inciting riots, plotting riots, making provocative speeches and inciting people to demonstrate on the streets.
