Army Chief Narwane's visit to Nepal hopes to improve relations

Indian Army Chief MM Narwane will travel to Nepal for three days this week. It is hoped that the visit will ease the strained relations between the two countries.

Nepal-India relations were suddenly strained due to a border dispute. Meanwhile, Nepal set up military posts on the border. Nepal created controversy by releasing a political map.

The two countries are now committed to resolving the issue. Indian Army Chief MM Narwane will leave for Nepal for three days. In the meantime, he will hold talks with the Prime Minister. Narwane will also receive an honorary degree from the Nepal Army at the hands of Nepal's President Vidya Devi Bhandari.

Navrane has high hopes for this visit. Foreign Secretary level dialogue between the two countries is likely to resume after the Army Chief's visit to Nepal. Foreign secretary level dialogue between the two countries has stalled, but the door will open again for that dialogue after Narwane's visit.

PM Oli is refusing to give a grand welcome to the army chief. Nepal is keen to start Pancheshwar project on Mahakali river. For that, India will help Nepal. After relations with India soured, Oli had to respond to the issue at the grassroots level as well. At the grassroots level, party leaders were in favor of improving relations with India. Because of this, Oli has finally softened.
