Kundli Election Watch and the Association for the Democratic Reform, an NGO, released the list of candidates contesting the Uttar Pradesh Assembly by-elections. Accordingly, independent candidate Dhananjay Singh had the record of committing the most crimes.
This man was a very outgoing Mafia don. In this by-election, 21 per cent of the people standing are habitual criminals, 39 per cent of the candidates are millionaires. The richest candidate is Brahmashankar Tripathi of the Samajwadi Party's Deoria constituency with assets worth Rs 31.49 crore. Dhananjay Singh, an independent candidate for Malha's seat, has the highest criminal record.
Five out of seven BSP candidates, five out of six SP candidates and one out of six Congress candidates were tainted. There are a total of seven by-elections for which 88 candidates stood. All the BSP candidates are crorepatis. Five SP and four BJP candidates were crorepatis. Dhananjay Singh came second after Brahmashankar Tripathi with assets worth Rs 23.07 crore.
47 out of 88 candidates have graduate or higher educational qualifications. 26 candidates are studying in the school from fifth to twelfth. 10 candidates know how to read and write enough and one candidate has a thumbprint.
