Lockdown in this area of Italy again, night curfew will last for three weeks

New delhi date. Wednesday, October 21, 2020

A nighttime curfew is being prepared for three weeks in the northern Lombardy region of Italy. This is the toughest action taken against corona virus in the country since the completion of the nationwide lockdown.

The curfew will be imposed from 11pm to 5am and is likely to last until November 13 after it is enforced from Thursday night. At the same time, medium and large shopping malls will be closed on weekends.

The decision comes after a new surge in Corona cases in Lombardy. The area was most affected in Italy during the first wave of the virus in the early months of 2020.

The southern region of Campania announced on Tuesday that it would abide by the rule. The curfew will begin this weekend, said Vincenz de Luca, the region's president. Campania's announcement comes at a time when the mayor of regional hub Naples has warned that only 15 ICU beds are available in the city.

Lombardy's health minister, Roberto Spenza, agreed on more restrictive measures in the region after an hour-long meeting proposed by the regional government on Monday.

"This is an appropriate and symbolically important initiative," regional president Atilio said in a statement. Which should not lead to particularly serious economic consequences.

The mayor of Milan said on social media that regional health officials had warned that the number of 113 people currently admitted to the ICU in Lombardy would rise to about 600 by the end of the week if new measures were not taken.

More than 11,700 new cases surfaced on Sunday, up from the previous record of 10,925 a day earlier. Which again makes Lombardy the most affected city, as it was at the beginning of the health crisis in February.
