China to build grand embassy in London, Muslims protest

London, Monday 5 October 2020

China had planned to build a grand embassy in London but China would now build it in the Giltji East area, fiercely opposed by local Muslims. The Chinese communist government wanted to build its own royal mint in 19th-century China Town, but Muslims in the area protested against the Chinese government's persecution of Uighur Muslims, forcing China to change its embassy.

China's plan is to build a grand embassy in London, and through it to expand its diplomatic mission around the world, moving the embassy from its current location to another location for many years, although locals have protested even before the embassy was built. .

Just behind the former Royal Mint is a densely populated area called Tower Hamlets, home to a large Muslim population, 4 out of 10 inhabitants of the area being Muslim, with more Muslims than any other area in Britain, some say. We will not allow an embassy to be built here unless the Chinese government stops atrocities against Uighur Muslims.
