The monsoon season will start from September 14

New Delhi, 2 September 2020, Wednesday

Parliamentary proceedings were undergoing major changes in the wake of the Corona crisis. It was officially announced that there would be no question period in the monsoon session of Parliament starting September 14. This monsoon season will run until the first of October.

For the first time in the history of Parliament after independence, there will be no question period. On the first day, the Lok Sabha will begin its proceedings at nine o'clock in the morning and the sitting will end at one o'clock. In the following days, the Lok Sabha will meet from 3 pm to 7 pm. The Lok Sabha Secretariat announced such a timetable.

There will be no private member business this monsoon session. Similarly, the Rajya Sabha will also be held on the first day i.e. 14th September from 3 pm to 7 pm. Saturday will not be a Sunday holiday. Even on these two days, the sitting of Parliament will continue as usual. A total of 18 meetings will be held from September 14 to October 1. There will be no question time in Parliament but there will be zero time.

According to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, only those MPs who are allowed to attend the meeting will be called. Member Portup will be notified on which day to attend. Apart from that, if any MP wants to give notice to the House, he has to inform the Secretariat before September 9, the announcement said.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat's announcement was opposed by Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien. He said that usually MPs have to submit their question fifteen days in advance. The session is set to begin on September 14th. The question period as to why the corona is being canceled is forwarded. For the first time since 1950, MPs were losing the right to question the functioning of the government. How can this work in a democracy.
