Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced that if a Dalit or a tribal person is killed, we will give a government job to his heir.

With the Bihar Assembly elections looming, Nitish Kumar carried the lollipop to get Dalit votes. For the implementation of his own promises, Nitish Kumar urged his government officials to make necessary changes in the law or come up with a new law.

Nitish Kumar was speaking as chairman of the state-level vigilance and monitoring committee meeting under the Dalit-Janajati (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1995 on Friday.

It may be recalled here that some political parties lost sleep after Dalit leader Jitan Ram Manjhi joined the NDA in Bihar. In particular, Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and his father Ram Vilas Paswan left the NDA and started talking about fighting independently. Lalu Prasad Yadav's RJD claimed that we were not worried that Manjhi had left us. We have many other Dalit leaders.

Now Nitish Kumar had hit a master stroke. Nitish Kumar also announced at the meeting that the pending cases of atrocities against Dalit-Janajatis should be settled by September 20. He directed Secretary, Ministry of Dalits and Tribes, Premkumar Meena, to expedite the disposal of such cases.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Minister Ramesh Rishidev and MP Vijay Manjhi among others.
