Nepalese ambassador caught giving poisonous interview to Chinese newspaper against India

Kathmandu, Ta. 29 September 2020, Tuesday

Nepal's ambassador to India has come under fire for giving a toxic interview against India in China's state-run newspaper, the Global Times.

In this interview, Nepali Ambassador Mahendra Pandey said that Indian media is publishing bogus reports about Beijing and Kathmandu. Not China but India has occupied Nepal's land. Indian media is showing false reports due to fear. Nepal has always been an independent country. And Nepal is not leaning towards anyone. Indian media is spreading false illusions. Cooperation between China and Nepal is natural.

However, the Nepali ambassador's statements have been criticized in Nepali newspapers. The Kathmandu Post has reported that Pandey's statement is not diplomatic. Others and party leaders have also said that the ambassador has crossed the line.

Dinesh Bhattarai, a former adviser to Nepal's Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Sushil Koirala, said, "I don't understand why the Nepalese ambassador needed to make such a statement. By doing so, he has put us in a difficult position. China cannot replace each other and this is a geographical reality.

A former Nepalese diplomat says that if Nepal jumps between India and China, it will be ridiculous. India and China understand each other's relations well. There is no point in saying that the Indian media wants to ruin China-Nepal relations.
