India, China agree to reduce border tensions, foreign ministers formulate five-point formula

At a meeting of the foreign ministers of India and China in the Russian capital, Moscow, the two countries agreed not to escalate tensions on the border.

A meeting between Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi was held on Thursday night in which the two countries worked out a five-point formula to reduce tensions. Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar made it clear that India did not want to increase tensions on the Line of Actual Control. He also clarified that there has been no change in India's policy towards China or China's policy towards India.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed the view that India and China are neighbors and there are also disagreements on some issues which are considered natural between the neighbors. Every disagreement must be viewed in a specific context.

The two countries agreed on five issues. The essence of those five points was something like this. 1) Mutual differences should not result in war, 2) the armies of the two countries retreat from the disputed area to their respective positions, 3) continue negotiations as decided by both countries, 4) accept the existing agreements and protocols and 5) increase tensions. Neither country will take such a step.

The meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries lasted for two hours. The meeting was held at 8 pm Moscow time on Thursday at the Volkonsky Hotel in the Congress Park area of ​​Moscow.
