Drugs case: Riya still in jail, sessions court rejects bail pleas of all IPOs

Mumbai, Ta. 11 September 2020, Friday

Riya Chakraborty's bail plea was rejected by the Sense Court in the Sushant Singh Rajput suicide case. The court also rejected the pleas of Shauvik Chakraborty, Samuel, Deepesh, Basit and Jaid.

The hearing on the bail pleas of Riya Chakraborty and her brother Shauvik Chakraborty, who were arrested in a drug case in connection with the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, was adjourned to Friday. Riya, Shauvik, Deepesh Sawant, Samuel Miranda, Zaid Vilatra and Bashit Parihar's bail application was heard by the sessions court here today.

Rhea, who was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days after his arrest, had applied for bail in a local court, claiming that he had been wrongly implicated. The petition said no drugs or prohibited items were seized from him and if there was any allegation, it was related to a small amount. There is no record of financing smuggling or helping criminals with drugs. Rhea also said in the application that she was forced to confess which she is currently withdrawing.

Her life is in danger in judicial custody and she has been threatened with rape and death. The petitioner argued that his arrest was unnecessary and irrational and that his freedom had been stripped of his freedom. No female officer was present during the investigation. Legal advice was also not sought during the interrogation.

More than one male officer was interrogated for more than eight hours. Riya was shifted to Byculla jail on Wednesday. The magistrate denied bail and remanded him in custody till September 22. Riya, 28, was arrested on Monday on charges of buying drugs for her boyfriend Sushant. Sushant committed suicide on June 14 and his death is being investigated by the CBI.

Riya is currently lodged in Byculla jail after her bail application was rejected by the court today, though it is believed that Riya's lawyers will now go to the high court and seek bail. Deepesh Sawant's lawyers argued that no non-bailable act had been filed against him so he should be granted bail. The court, however, did not grant him any relief.
