Distribution of seats in NDA for Bihar Assembly elections, 2010 formula for 2020

Patna, Ta. Monday 28 September 2020

The NDA has come up with its own formula for the Bihar Assembly elections. According to sources, the JDU has specified the demand for more seats but at the same time asked them to follow the formula of seat-sharing 2010. In 2010, the JDU contested 141 seats and the BJP 102 seats. In this election, JDU won 115 seats and BJP 91 seats, limiting Lalu Prasad Yadav's RJD to 22 seats.

BJP veterans are brainstorming in Delhi

Bihar BJP in-charge Bhupendra Yadav first flew to Delhi on Friday as soon as the distribution of seats in the NDA was decided. As the Bihar in-charge left for Delhi, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey spent hours debating the names of candidates for the first phase of polling. On Sunday, Bihar BJP state president Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal also left for Delhi. According to sources, Jaiswal has taken with him a list of candidates for the first phase. On which the Central Election Committee will give its consent after brainstorming. According to sources, the list prepared by the BJP has about 8 seats where the names of three candidates were discussed. That means BJP can cut the names of 8 sitting MLAs.

Candidates will be announced before October 3

The announcement of Bihar BJP candidates for the first phase of Bihar Assembly polls on October 28 is likely to be made before October 3. The fact is that the Bihar Election Committee has not yet met on the names of the candidates. According to sources, the BJP has almost finalized the names but now the names will be presented to the Bihar Election Committee for discussion and the list will be handed over to the Central Committee only after the consent of the Election Committee. According to sources, a meeting of the Bihar Election Committee may be held on September 30, i.e. before Wednesday, in the name of the first phase candidates. The Central Election Committee will then meet on this list in which a decision will be taken to make a complete assessment of the area along with the names of the candidates.

The JDU will contest 103 seats and the BJP 101 seats

The NDA has worked out its own formula for the Bihar Assembly elections. According to sources, the JDU will contest 103 seats and the BJP 101 seats in the 2020 Assembly elections. In 2010, the JDU contested 141 seats and the BJP 102 seats. But this time, LJP and Jitendra Manjhi's party Hum are also in the NDA. So, this time 39 seats have been reserved for the allies.

This is the math of the seats in the NDA

In the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections, the grand alliance won 178 out of 243 seats. The victory was won by more RJD MLAs than JDU. Apart from the BJP, Nitish Kumar's party, the JDU, contested 142 seats in the 2010 elections, but in 2015, the JDU, which was part of the grand coalition, contested 101 seats. Thus in 2015 the JDU fought with 41 fewer seats than in 2010. And won 71 of the 101 seats it won, 44 less than in 2010. So, the BJP, which contested 167 seats, managed to win only 53 seats in 2015.
