Trinamool Congress MP Saugat Roy made a fuss in Parliament over the dress code of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaram. After the controversy, the speaker removed the words from the official proceedings.

Trinamool Congress MP Saugat Roy made a personal remark about Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Banking Regulation Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha, which said that depositors in banks would benefit more. At the time, Saugat Roy had satirically commented on Sitharaman's appearance.

After that, there was a huge uproar in the Parliament House. BJP MPs demanded that Saugat Roy apologize for making inappropriate remarks on Nirmala Sitharaman. Commenting on a woman's dress is tantamount to insulting her.

Saugat Roy, however, refused to apologize, arguing. Saugat Roy said the words he used were not unparliamentary. Ruling party lawmakers continued to demand an apology. Speaker Om Birla then removed Saugat Roy's words from the official parliamentary proceedings.

Saugat Roy is a senior Trinamool Congress leader. Saugat Roy, who was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Dumdum constituency, had earlier been a minister in Manmohan Singh's government. He is counted among the senior members of the Lok Sabha.
