'Bharat Bandh' farmers will take to the streets today in protest of agricultural bills

Farmers' protests against the agricultural bills passed in both the Houses of Parliament are likely to intensify today. Various farmers' organizations today called for a nationwide shutdown in protest of the bill. The bill is most opposed in Haryana and Punjab. In addition, in some other states, farmers' organizations as well as political parties are ready to take to the streets to protest. The biggest opposition to agricultural bills is in Punjab and Haryana.

As per the information received, 31 farmers' organizations have called for a Punjab Dam today. In Haryana, too, Sukhdev Singh, general secretary of the Indian Farmers Union, has appealed to shopkeepers in Punjab to keep their shops closed and support the farmers. Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has also assured the farmers of his support in their fight. He said no FIR of violation of Section 144 would be registered in the region on Friday.

The Chief Minister appealed to the peasant protesters that law and order should not be violated during the agitation. He said care should also be taken not to inconvenience the people during the agitation and not to damage public property. The Indian Farmers' Union (BKU) in Haryana has earlier announced its full support for the Bharat Bandh against agricultural bills.

On the other hand, the BJP government in Haryana has also made all preparations to maintain security in the region keeping in view the agitation. Home Minister Anil Vijay held a meeting with Home Department and police officials. He has directed the DGP to prevent any untoward incident during the strike.
