New delhi date. 19 September 2020, Saturday

There was a huge outcry when the central government replied that it did not have any data on how many migrant workers were killed during the lockdown. The government was again asked in the Rajya Sabha on Friday how many people were killed in the labor special trains during the lockdown. In response, the government said that as on September 9, a total of 97 workers had lost their lives in special trains.

In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha by TMC MP Derek O'Brien, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that a total of 97 people have lost their lives till September 9. Of these 97 deaths, 87 bodies were sent for postmortem by state police. So far 51 postmortem reports have been received from the concerned state police. The deaths were caused by heart disease, brain hemorrhage, cardiac arrest, lung and liver related diseases.

The initiative came in the wake of reports of 80 deaths in May. Between May 9 and May 27, 80 people were killed in a labor special train, according to the Railway Protection Police.

The lockdown was imposed in the country after the Corona virus crisis. Foreign laborers were greatly affected during this period. Millions of foreign workers took to the streets to return home. There were also reports of deaths of many workers during this time.

The question was asked in Parliament on Monday on the issue, whether thousands of workers have died during the lockdown, whether the government has any official data. The government replied that they did not have any such data available. After which there was a great commotion.
