We asked India to select a lawyer for Kulbhushan

-One more bogus claim made to Pakistan

-Pak. The court wrongly sentenced Kulbhushan to death

Islamabad / New Delhi 7th August 2020 Friday

Pakistan on Thursday claimed that it had asked India to appoint a lawyer of its choice for Kulbhushan Jadhav. In fact, Pakistan's claim was utterly bogus. Pakistan has never offered India to appoint an Indian lawyer for Kulbhushan.

Pakistan's foreign ministry spokeswoman Ayesha Farooqi claimed in a weekly media meet that Pakistan had offered to hire a lawyer to defend Kulbhushan Jadhav. In fact, the Islamabad High Court had directed the Pakistan government to give Kulbhushan Jadhav one more chance to appoint a lawyer.

Ayesha claimed that after the Islamabad High Court passed the order on August 3, we reported the matter to India through diplomatic channels. Now we are waiting for India's response. Asked about this, External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, "No such proposal has been sent to us directly by Pakistan or through the Indian embassy. Pakistan is lying."

Srivastava also said that Pakistan should abide by the order of the International Court of Justice in this regard. Pakistan has not yet complied with the order.

The International Court of Justice had explicitly instructed Pakistan to arrange for Jadhav to meet freely in private with representatives of the Indian Embassy. Pakistan has not complied with the order. Under one pretext or another, he is constantly torturing Jadhav and forcing him to sign a text stating that he is a spy for India.
