Supreme Court extends Babri case by September 30

New delhi date. Saturday 22 August 2020

The decision of the Lucknow special court in the Babri demolition case will come by September 30. The apex court has extended the deadline for hearing the case by one month till September 30 after seeing the status report of the trial of Special Judge SK Yadav, who is hearing the case. It had earlier given a deadline of August 31 to complete the hearing. Many leaders, including veteran BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti, are accused in the case.

After hearing the case on May 8, the apex court had given time till August 31, 2020 to complete the trial. The CBI court did not violate the August deadline. The CBI court should use the video conferencing facility. Special Judge SK Yadav wrote a letter to the Supreme Court seeking more time.

It may be recalled that senior BJP leader LK Advani had recorded his statement in the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition case before a special CBI court through video conferencing. Advani joined the special CBI court in Lucknow through a video link. During the 4.5-hour hearing, the court asked Advani more than 100 questions. Advani's lawyer said he denied all the allegations against him.
