SOG admits to conspiracy to overthrow government in Rajasthan

Jaipur, Ta. 8 August 2020, Saturday

The SOG of Rajasthan Police, which has exposed the alleged conspiracy to overthrow the government in Rajasthan, has closed all the three FIRs after 28 days and said no case has been registered against them. Special Operations Group lawyer Sant Kumar told the court that he did not want any action in the matter. The court has ordered the release of Sanjay Jain, Bharat Malani and Ashok Singh. However, Sanjay Jain is currently on a five-day remand in the Anti-Corruption Bureau and cannot be released.

What is the case

The Special Operations Group of Rajasthan Police had on July 10 registered a case alleging that a conspiracy had been hatched to bring down the state government when a smuggler took on mobile surveillance. According to the SOG, Bharat Malani, a resident of Beawar, and Ashok Singh, a resident of Udaipur, along with several others, were conspiring to overthrow the government. The SOG had sent a notice to former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot on the basis of a complaint lodged by the SOG inspector in the matter. The case was registered under treason clauses.

Two more cases were registered following a complaint by Mahesh Joshi, the government's chief whip, after the audio of the MLAs' purchase and sale was released. The SOG also raided several places and arrested Sanjay Jain. The SOG had earlier told the Rajasthan High Court that since the case was not a case of treason, we wanted to withdraw the treason clauses.

BJP's attack

Now that the cases have been withdrawn, the BJP has taken aim. The BJP said the SOG raided 24 places and sent SOGs to hotels in Manesar and Delhi to inform the Rajasthan police. The Rajasthan SOG also wrote to the DGP of Haryana Police to co-operate in the investigation and told him that the case was no longer pending. The BJP also demanded that innocent people be jailed for up to one month.
