The United States has approved the use of the antiviral drug Remedisvir in patients with coronary heart disease. The drug will now be given to hospitalized corona infected patients.

Drugmaker Gilead Science said regulators had approved the use of the experimental antiviral drug remedisvir for all patients admitted to the hospital due to Covid-19.

Earlier, the US Food and Drug Administration allowed the use of the drug in emergencies, so far it has been given to patients with the severe coronavirus. Gilead, a California-based company, applied for formal approval of Remedisvir on August 10. It will now be sold under the brand name Vaclary.

Gilead said in a statement that this is an area of ​​emergency use. This was based on the results of an existing federal study of hospitalized patients. This decision has been taken in view of different levels of seriousness.

The Gilead study found that in hospitalized patients with corona virus, the chances of improvement in treatment five days after use of remedisvir were 65% higher.
