President Soniaji, Rahul overcoming the party: Digvijay Singh

- A wave of discontent in Congress

- Still behind the scenes

New Delhi 26th August 2020 Wednesday

In the Congress executive meeting held on Monday, Sonia Gandhi once again continued as the party's acting president. As Rahul Gandhi's dominance over the party remained intact, discontent was simmering in the party. A meeting of dissidents was held at the house of Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday evening.

A statement by senior leader Digvijay Singh had created a stir in the atmosphere. Diggibabu said that discontent in the party has not spread in a single day. Dissatisfaction has been prevailing in the party since Sonia Gandhi was made interim president last year. It seems that even though Rahul Gandhi did not remain the president but his control over the party remained the same, some people were annoyed. Dissatisfaction escalated after the Rajya Sabha elections. The number of dissidents increased when Rahul Gandhi nominated Rajiv Satav instead of Mukul Banani or Casey Venugopal.

Sources in the rebel leaders said that the letter to Sonia Gandhi was to be signed by 100 leaders but half of them moved out of fear. He feared disciplinary action. Twelve members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were to sign. But some of them were afraid of being expelled from the party? So sat in the water at the last minute.

One leader said the letter praised the contributions of the Nehru and Gandhi families but the letter writers were considered rebels.

Another leader said that in fact many top leaders were involved in the uprising but at the last minute they were discouraged. Asked how the letter would affect the party's reputation, one leader said it was a matter of correspondence between the letter writers and the chairman. What can we do about it?
