Kulgam on 6th August 2020 Thursday
Sajjad Hussain Khande, a BJP leader and village sarpanch from Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir, was shot dead by militants this morning. Khande was shot outside his home. He was rushed to a hospital where he breathed his last before receiving treatment.
Earlier in June this year, Sarpanch Ajay Pandit, a Kashmiri Pandit, was assassinated by militants.
Sajjad Hussain Khand was standing outside his house at Vessu in Kulgam district when he was suddenly struck by terrorists and shot dead. This was the second incident in the last 48 hours of the attack on the sarpanch in the Kashmir Valley area. Earlier on August 4, Arif Ahmed Shah, the sarpanch of Panch Peer in Akhran in Mirbazar area of Kulgam district, was attacked by militants. He was also shot. Shah was being treated at a hospital in Srinagar. He was also seriously injured.
Earlier, Ajay Pandit, sarpanch of Larkipura village in Anantnag district and a Congress leader, was killed. However, her killers were shot dead by security forces. The incident of shooting the sarpanch of that village has been on the rise for the last few days.
