At the request of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Interpol has issued a red notice against Ami Modi. The 192 member countries of Interpol can arrest or detain a fugitive accused when a crying notice is issued against him. Extradition proceedings are then initiated against the accused.

The ED has indicted Ami Modi along with her husband and jewelers Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi and others for conspiracy and money laundering under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Nirav Modi, 49, was arrested in London in March 2019 and is currently lodged in a London jail. He is currently facing extradition case in India.

Earlier this year, a Mumbai court had declared Nirav Modi a fugitive economic criminal. The court has ordered the confiscation of his property. The ED has so far seized assets worth Rs 329 crore from Nirav Modi. Earlier, Interpol had also issued notices against Nirav Modi's younger brother Nehal Modi and sister Purvi Modi.
