Chinese national caught in hawala scam also spies, bribes Tibetans living in Delhi

Charlie Peng, a Chinese national, was arrested in connection with the hawala scam. He, along with other Chinese nationals, opened bank accounts in the name of shell companies and handed over Rs 1,000 crore. He is currently being questioned by the Income Tax Department and several other agencies. Then there is another big revelation. A Chinese national named Charlie Peng has also been accused of working for a spy network.

China's secret agency has also tried to bribe Tibetans living in Delhi through Charlie Peng. The monks living in the Majnu Ka Tila area in Delhi were targeted by the Lama. According to the information received, Charlie Peng has bribed these people to gather information about the Dalai Lama and his associates. He used his office staff to pay bribes. Charlie used to send packets through these employees, usually with two to three lakh rupees inside the packets, Charlie told the investigating agencies.

The investigation also found that Charlie was in contact with people through the Chinese PWC for this work. Also known as Charlie Luo Sang who came to India in 2014. He also tried to get Delhi into the Dalai Lama's team in Himachal Pradesh.

Last week, the Income Tax Department raided Delhi and surrounding areas, alleging that Charlie Peng and other Chinese nationals had opened 40 bank accounts in the name of a Chinese shell company, laundering more than Rs 1,000 crore. Charlie Peng was first caught by Delhi Police in 2018. He was released on bail a year later. He has since been re-arrested.
