BMC releases Patna SP Vinay Tiwari from quarantine after showing 'return ticket'

Mumbai, Ta. 7 August 2020, Friday

Bihar cadre IPS officer Vinay Tiwari, who arrived in Mumbai to probe the actor Sushant Singh Rajput case, has been released from quarantine. Following the Patna police's recommendation, the BMC has decided to release IPS officer Vinay Tiwari after a five-day quarantine. However this decision has been taken after the return ticket was shown.

Some conditions have also been laid down by the BMC against the release of IPS Vinay Tiwari from quarantine. As per the conditions, he can leave Maharashtra after August 8. They will inform the BMC of their return ticket and travel to the airport in a private car following the SOP. Also all the rules will be followed during the trip.

At the same time, BMC has expressed surprise that a senior official is not aware of the rule. Sushant Singh Rajput's father KK Singh had registered a case against Riya Chakraborty in Patna for which IPS Vinay Tiwari was sent to Mumbai.

He was quarantined as soon as IPS Vinay Tiwari arrived in Mumbai. This led to a rift between the Bihar police and the Mumbai police, but the Mumbai police later denied any involvement. Bihar police then wrote a letter to BMC requesting the immediate release of IPS Vinay Tiwari.

Meanwhile, the Bihar police had transferred the case to the CBI alleging that the Mumbai police was not cooperating. The case was further complicated by tensions between the Mumbai and Patna police and the CBI has since set up an inquiry into the case. A case has been registered against Riya Chakraborty and a team has been formed to investigate.

It is learned that CBI will hand over documents from Patna police. However, a Supreme Court hearing is still awaited. Riya's lawyer has once again opposed the CBI probe. According to him, the CBI probe cannot be done legally on the recommendation of the Bihar government. This requires the recommendation of the Government of Maharashtra.

The Supreme Court had given the Maharashtra and Bihar governments time to respond to the matter. Meanwhile, the CBI has made its own preparations and is now awaiting a hearing in the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court decision is in favor of the Center or the Bihar government, an inquiry will be launched. If not, the CBI will not be able to investigate.
